Caption a Brightcove live stream
Guide on how to add subtitles to a Brightcove stream
Requirements: Live captioning bolt-on, Brightcove integration enabled and configured
Before starting a stream, first configure your Brightcove player with the CaptionHub Live plugin.
Starting a stream
First, set up your live stream or event in Brightcove in exactly the same way you normally do. When you can see live video appearing in Brightcove, then you’re ready to begin:
- In CaptionHub, navigate to the Dashboard or Projects page
- Select “New project from…” button, and choose the Brightcove option
- Your newly-created live event should be at the top of the list; select the “Import to CaptionHub” option
- Navigate back to the Dashboard, and click on the imported project
- Click on the “Configure live project” button
- Select your desired options for original language transcription, which languages you’d like to translate into (if any), and if you’d like to use a Custom Dictionary for transcription
- If you’d like to use a termbase for your translations, attach one or more using the drop-down cog menu
- Click the “Start stream” button when you’re ready to start transcription, and wait a few seconds until you can see the video
Adjusting settings whilst a stream is in progress
- If you need to change a stream’s source language or custom dictionary, then you’ll need to stop the stream, make any changes, and then restart it
- You can add or remove translations at any point, just click on the “Configure live project button” and edit the settings there
- Allow up to 30 seconds for translation changes to come through
- Similarly, you can add / remove termbases whilst a stream is running
