Live captions for a Mux stream

How to live caption a HLS stream from Mux

CaptionHub integrates with Mux to allow you to add captions to any player with just a few clicks.

To get started:

  1. Configure the connector and webhook. This will allow you to pull Mux assets and streams into CaptionHub. The webhooks allow CaptionHub to automatically start captioning when your project is live.
  1. Configure your Mux player. If you use Mux’ own player, add the Mux plugin to your page.

That’s the general set up, you only have to do this once.

Now to caption any Mux stream:

  1. Create the Mux live stream, either via their UI or via the Mux API
  1. Create a project in CaptionHub. You can do this via the CaptionHub UI or via the project import API endpoint.

When you start your stream to Mux, CaptionHub will automatically add captions to the video.

Manually create a project

If you have a stream in Mux, you also can add the HLS playbook URL in CaptionHub. You can then use any of our supported players for the HLS integration or supported plugins.

Requirements

  • You will need to set the latency_mode to standard. Any other setting will not work.
  • Using DRM is not currently supported

Supported features

  • CaptionHub Live can be used regardless of ingest method (RTMP, RTMPS, SRT)
  • Audio-only streams are fully supported (you will see a blank player in our UI)
