Control who can see live captions
Use live streams in private mode
Normal Timbra projects are in public mode. This means the captions are accessible to all users who have the URL. This is intended for public video streams.
You can change the visibility of the project under “Advanced options”.

Private mode
In private mode the endpoints are locked down. Timbra exposes caption data only to users who are signed in to Timbra as superuser and via the API.
You can use this feature to:
- Build an integration with our webhooks or API
- Evaluate CaptionHub privately (including downloading the output as VTT)
- Build captions delivery with user authorisation using a proxy
- Display in-room captions to attendees using the in-room display
Limitations in private mode
- No support for the in-room companion
- No support for viewing the captions in a video via the HLS integration
- Brightcove and Mux plugins can’t be used, but the Brightcove player can be configured to use captions using the Video.js plugin.
- No support for the transcript widget
