Learn about translation and provider-specific settings
Here is where you can set the default engine for translations.
Amazon Translate is our default translation provider, however you have the flexibility to choose another provider from the dropdown menu. Our supported translation engines include: DeepL, Google Translate, Amazon Translate, and Language Weaver. Amazon Translate with Translation Memory and OpenAI Translate are both in private beta.
Depending on the provider you select, each engine may offer several transcription settings to customise the transcription process according to your preferences. These can be accessed via your Connectors page.

Optional translation settings
Allow automatic splitting of overlong captions
CaptionHub will do some automatic post-editing on the translation in order to make it fit your character limits. It is also possible that we might split one of your longer captions into two if the translation just does not fit into a single caption. To disable this behaviour, a Superuser will need to go into Team Settings > Translation and remove the check mark from “Allow automatic splitting of overlong captions”.
Use lower maximum character limit and CPS reading speed for CJK languages
When deciding where to insert line breaks in a machine translation, CaptionHub considers:
- Your maximum characters per line setting
- Natural linguistic breaks and semantic units (see Natural Captions)
This ensures captions are not only within technical limits, but also aligned with best practices for readability and flow.
When translating into languages that use Chinese, Japanese, or Korean characters (including variants like Cantonese), CaptionHub automatically reduces the:
- Maximum characters per line
- Characters per second (reading speed)
These adjustments are made because CJK characters carry more phonetic weight and take longer to read than Latin-based scripts. Applying English character limits to these languages would result in dense, unbalanced, and hard-to-read captions.
CaptionHub will automatically adjust itself for translations into these languages. It does not apply to other non-English languages (e.g., German, Russian).
To disable this automatic CJK-specific adjustment:
- Go to Team settings > Translation
- Uncheck the option use automatic line and speed adjustments for CJK languages
Note: This behaviour does not apply to MT generated via Automation templates, or Live projects.
