Use Mimic URLs

By default, Timbra's HLS output uses playlist URLs hosted by CaptionHub. As an alternative, you can configure your project to use the Mimic architecture.
The Mimic architecture offers two key advantages over the standard HLS output:
- The subtitle playlist mirrors or “mimics” the structure of the source audio playlist, maintaining a one to one mapping between audio and subtitle segments. This helps prevent playback issues in players that expect both playlists to contain matching segments.
- It improves resilience by serving subtitle playlists through separate infrastructure and CDNs.
Setting up the Mimic architecture
- Create your project in CaptionHub, using an HLS URL as the input source and selecting HLS Integration as the output type.
- When using the Mimic architecture, the HLS integration tab indicates that you first need to configure the HLS transcription URL.
- To obtain this URL, start captioning so that CaptionHub can analyse your source HLS playlist. Once captioning has started, open the Health monitor tab and expand the HLS details section. Copy the Playlist URL used for transcription. Once this information is available, you can stop captioning if required.
- Paste this URL into the HLS Transcription URL field under Advanced settings. You can access this setting while the project is generating captions by clicking Configure settings, or later by selecting More actions ⋯ > Edit project.
- Once configured, your project is ready to use the Mimic architecture. The HLS Integration tab will now display two playlist URLs:
- A modified HLS multivariant playlist containing the source video together with CaptionHub subtitle tracks. See Use a modified HLS manifest from CaptionHub.
- A subtitles only HLS playlist for integrating captions into an existing manifest. See Integrate captions into your HLS manifest.
