Sometimes a transcription engine may mistake one word for another that sounds similar. If you notice the same word being consistently transcribed incorrectly, you can use a Substitution dictionary to automatically replace the incorrect transcription with the correct term.

Creating a Substitution dictionary

Before you can use a substitution dictionary, you'll need to create one:

Open the Substitution dictionaries page from the sidebar.

Click New substitution dictionary

Enter a name for the dictionary and select the language it will apply to

Add your substitution rules by completing the Find... and Replace with... fields, then click + Add rule

Click Create dictionary to save your dictionary

Using a Substitution dictionary with Timbra

Once your substitution dictionary has been created, you can apply it to a Timbra project:

Create or open your Timbra project and navigate to Languages & Settings

Under Source language settings, locate the Substitution dictionaries option

Click + Add and select the dictionary you want to use

The selected substitution dictionary will be applied during the final stage of the transcription process, automatically replacing any matching terms according to the rules you have defined

Substitution dictionaries are particularly useful for correcting recurring transcription errors involving names, brands, product terminology, acronyms, or other words that are frequently confused by speech recognition engines.

Managing your substitution dictionaries

The Substitution dictionaries page lets you manage all dictionaries available to your team.

Name: The name of the dictionary.

Language: The language assigned to the dictionary.

Rules: The total number of rules it contains.

Last updated: The date the dictionary was last modified.

The More actions (⋮) menu provides the following options:

Edit: Update the dictionary contents. You can search, edit, select, find and replace and bulk delete terms.

Delete: Permanently remove the dictionary.
